Week 2

Hoe golly! What a day! So much was taught and so much was learnt.

First most importantly, I believe amphetamines or a rather large amountage of caffeine is vital to starting these shitty 9am starts! Urgh, I felt like death warmed up, and am pretty shore I looked it too. Thank god for energy drinks and the good people at the no-doze company. Wednesdays mornings will have dandy kick start to them from now on.

Today’s lecture was pretty good, we learned about Story/Script Concept
Design. A script must be fully understood by story breakdown, in order to create a good imagery. If you don’t read the story properly, you could totally f*ck up the whole design of the film. And since animation is such a cut-throat industry, you could wake up to find your kidneys removed due to your carelessness.

In our lovely little tute, we spent time looking at the outcome of last weeks exercise. It was awesome having a geeze at other people’s thumbnails and drawings. No one had the same design which was awesome (three cheers for diversity) With the whole researching imagery thing, I hardly anything online, but a few good pictures in some of marks books. (With old mate Nick’s help of course – what a champ!) There was a heap of imagery found of exteriors during the 1800s. I used these and had to try create an interior design to match a building that looked like one of these…

These are the only inside images I found, but they were still pretty useful!

… and after sketching a few thumbnails...

...i came up with one that I liked, and thought was half decent!

unfortunately for me, I forgot to bring the f*cker into class to get feed back. Typical.

We also learned about script breakdown! And how to color code schtuff!
The basic process is to Pre-Production script planning is….
1. Read the Script.
2. Mark up your Script.
3. Prepare a Script Breakdown.
4. Prepare your Production Board.
5. Schedule your Shooting.
6. Get approvals from all involved.
7. Budget your time and money.

Whell that’s enuff ranting and raving for one day, im pretty shore the one person in my audience has gouged his eyes out so he doesn’t have to read this any longer! I must be off and do this script analysis thingymx!
